|About Us

Healing Horizons provides outdoor and wellness programs for veterans and individuals facing physical, emotional, and mental health challenges. We aim to create a safe and supportive environment that promotes healing and personal growth through outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, and other related activities, as well as holistic wellness practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness.
We also provide education and resources for individuals facing health challenges and are partnered with other non-profit organizations, government agencies, and private entities to achieve its mission.

|Our goals

Healing Horizons was founded in 2023 from the personal struggles of our founder who battled anxiety, depression, and isolation, a struggle familiar to many veterans. Recognizing that traditional support systems often fall short, we wanted to create a community that truly understands and can effectively assist in navigating various mental health journeys.

For those who have faced the intense and life-changing experiences of deployment, the challenges of reintegration can be overwhelming. Lingering effects of trauma, loss, and high-stress environments can lead to a cycle of isolation and despair. We believe that mental health support tailored to the unique experiences of every individual is not just a resource, but a necessity.

We founded our organization to bridge the gap between the needs of our community and the services available to them. By leveraging our team’s military background and insights, we've created programs that resonate with veterans, understanding their struggles and offering hope and assistance.

By sharing our story, we hope to inspire others to join us in recognizing the importance of mental health, not only for veterans but for society as a whole.

We aim to provide a safe space where we can connect, share our stories, and engage in activities that promote healing and self-discovery.

We are committed to making a difference through counseling, community events, and education.

We strive to address the emotional scars that stay with us long after physical wounds have healed.

We believe in the power of connection, empathy, and understanding, and we stand ready to support our brothers and sisters in arms as they navigate the often complex journey towards mental and emotional well-being.

Meet the Team

|Chad Kelley

Since joining the Army in 2009, Chad has been on three deployments (‘12-’13, ‘14, ‘18-’19) to Afghanistan with US Special Operations Command. He experienced the loss of a teammate and several other severely injured by IEDs. He has suffered physical injuries himself in addition to mental health impacts that continue to follow him. In finding the strength to heal and interacting with so many others with a similar story, Chad was inspired to start Healing Horizons. He believes in the fight for mental health and aims for everyone to have the access deserved for treatment, therapy and most importantly, the ability see that life is worth living.

|Ted Strohmeier

Since joining the Army in 2016, Ted was deployed to Iraq (‘18) with US Special Operations Command. He experienced the loss of friends and teammates to a suicide bomb. He witnessed the survivor’s guilt that affected his close friends, wishing he could do something more to help. Finding that traditional veteran support organizations were unapproachable, Ted continued searching for an organization that supported mental health and holistic wellbeing, especially for younger veterans. He was inspired by Chad’s vision for Healing Horizons and knew he had to be a part of it. Whether struggling to find that post-service identity, or fighting to heal those invisible wounds, Ted hopes to help veterans and their families find their peace in the outdoors, while building a strong community of support to advocate for our cause.

|Mason Miller

Since joining the Army in 2011, Mason has been on two deployments (‘13-’14, ‘21) to Afghanistan and Cuba. He experienced the loss of several fellow soldiers to suicide and has dealt with PTSD himself alongside being a disabled veteran. This, however, motivated Mason to help other navigate the path to recovery. Knowing how many charities fall short in making meaningful connections on a personal level, he strives to give back to the community alongside Healing Horizons.
